Why vinyl makes sense on the busiest surface in the house
Stairs take more abuse than any other floor in the house, and vinyl is the only stair-friendly material that's fully waterproof, scratch-resistant, and quiet all at once. For homes with kids, dogs, or basement stairs that see snowmelt and grocery bags all winter, it holds up better than either [hardwood](/hardwood-stairs) or [carpet](/carpet-stairs) without looking worse for it.
Best Flooring installs [LVP](/luxury-vinyl-plank) stairs across Greater Indianapolis using the same plank you've chosen for the room above or below, so the staircase reads as one continuous floor instead of a patched-together afterthought.

Nosings are what make or break a vinyl staircase
Most LVP manufacturers don't ship a matching stair nosing out of the box, which is why so many DIY vinyl stair jobs look off the moment you look closely. We solve it two ways - factory-color nosings when the manufacturer offers one, and nosings we mill in-house from the same plank when they don't. Either way, the front edge of every step matches the tread, with no contrast strip or aluminum trim standing out.
- 20 and 30 mil wear layers, rated for commercial-level traffic
- Slip-resistant, micro-textured surface
- Click-lock and glue-down installation, whichever fits your stairs
- Nosings milled to match any plank we carry

Vinyl stair installs fail two ways - the plank lifts at the nosing, or the tread underneath was never secured and every step squeaks for years afterward. We use polyurethane construction adhesive plus hidden fasteners behind the nosing, and skim-coat every tread flat before the plank goes down. What you get is a staircase that feels as solid as hardwood with none of the upkeep - if you're comparing options, our [laminate stairs](/laminate-stairs) page walks through the tradeoffs on the budget side.

Vinyl Flooring Stairs - frequently asked questions
Modern LVP for stairs is embossed with a low-slip micro-texture built for exactly this use. It grips better underfoot than polyurethaned hardwood and holds its own against commercial-grade LVT.
We pull the carpet, pad, staples, and tack strip first, then check the treads underneath. Solid wood treads just need a quick leveling pass; particleboard or damaged treads get replaced before the plank goes down.
Not once we're done with them. We re-secure every tread and add construction adhesive before the plank goes on, which usually makes the staircase quieter than it was before.
With a matching nosing - either sourced from the plank's manufacturer or milled in-house from the same board. We don't fall back on a generic aluminum strip.
